George Lopez was born in Mexico City and has been a resident of Jay County since 1965. He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School,graduated from Portland High school in 1972 and from Xavier University with honors in 1976. He obtained his Juris Doctor from Salmon Portland Chase Law School in Cincinnati Ohio and was admitted to the Indiana Bar Association in 1979.
George practiced law from 1979 to 2010 with the law firm of Hinkle, Racster, and Lopez until he joined the Jay County Prosecutors office full time in 2011 as Chief Deputy Prosecutor. He served as a part time Chief Deputy for Jay County from 1989 to 1994 at which time he was elected Prosecutor for two terms until 2002. George has served as special prosecutor for Adams, Wells, Delaware, Blackford, and Randolph Counties.
